Police: Rockville Doctor Died of Asphyxiation

Capt. Daly: No charges filed in the death of Chandrasekhar Korapati.

The death of a Rockville doctor was caused by asphyxiation, Montgomery County police said, citing apreliminary report from the state medical examiner’s office.

Chandrasekhar Korapati, 50, was found dead Thursday, July 11 at his home in the 9800 block of Juniper Hill Road, part of the Willows community.

His death was ruled a homicide, though there have been no arrests or charges in the case, said Capt. Jim Daly, a Montgomery County police spokesman.

Investigators are focusing on how Korapati died, Daly said.

“There can be many reasons for asphyxia,” Daly said “Asphyxia is just a medical term that means deprivation of oxygen.”

Police said Korapati got into a fight with his 19-year-old son and 20-year-old daughter the night before he was found dead.

The son called 911 the morning of July 11 to report that his father was not breathing.
