Peter, you ask a good question, and one we get from time-to-time. There is a long-standing debate over when to use racial identifiers in crime reports.
This article from Poynter discusses the issue: http://www.poynter.org/how-tos/newsgathering-storytelling/diversity-at-work/166506/ap-stylebook-updates-entry-on-racial-ids-in-news-stories/
It is Patch editorial policy to avoid routinely including the race of suspects unless there are other identifying factors that would help in locating potential lawbreakers. Different news agencies have different policies. In this case, the other identifying factors did not rise to the level of our policy to include the suspects' race. Thanks for your question and thanks for reading. -

ReplyHi Alan, thanks for your comment. We do cover Wildwood businesses and restaurants when they come in, like Wildwood Kitchen and Chop't, along with businesses and restaurants in the mall. There tends to be more business turnover on Bethesda Row and in the Woodmont Triangle, so that's why you see most of our business coverage focused there. But thanks for the suggestion and I'll keep an eye out for stories in Wildwood. Please let me know if you have any suggestions for coverage.

Good point on the Whole Foods. When I lived in Glen Echo Heights I could drive to those three all in ten minutes or under -- seems a bit excessive. Of course, my preference was Tenleytown because of the beer/wine selection!

ReplyA Marvelous Market might be cool. They work well in small, urban spaces.

Yes, there is a grocery store also planned for that development but the grocery tenant hasn't been announced.

Here's the response from Ken: "The plan is very much in draft form and needs a considerable amount of review by Traffic, Transit, Metro, Police, State Highway, and the Urban District. It's not in a "final" condition to be released publicly yet. This is a big plan and needs to be reviewed carefully before approved." We'll continue to follow it.

ReplyThanks -- I'm trying to get some verification on what's going on with the lease (as described in the online petition.) I've reached out to Bruce Variety and the shopping center owner and will update when I know more.
