This week brought the first wintery mix and delayed opening for schools.  It also brought budget and economic news. On Monday, Federal Realty Investment Trust said "no" to an ice rink at Rockville Town Square.  However, a grocery store may be on the way. Tuesday brought news of twenty administrative positions cut for volunteer firefighters as the Montgomery County Council cut $32 million in mid-year spending. County unions accepted a new arbitration law intended to make it easier for the county to win contracts disputes with organized labor, without a peep from the unions. On Wednesday, the Board of Public Works gave final approved to the sale of the former Peary High School to the Melvin J. Berman Hebrew Academy. County schools …

Here's a look back: On Monday, the City Council gave preliminary approval for a parking lot at the Robert A. Pumphrey Funeral Home that had sparked debate in the city's West End.
