VIDEO: Nationals Fans React to Teddy's Win

Teddy Roosevelt wins Presidents' Race at Nats game Wednesday.

Washington Nationals fans had another reason to celebrate when Teddy Roosevelt won the Presidents' Race for the first time ever during the Nats' regular-season finale against the Phillies Wednesday afternoon. Teddy's inability to win a Presidents' Race has been a long-standing joke among Nats fans. After more than 500 attempts since the Presidents' Race debuted at RFK Stadium in the summer of 2006, the giant-headed mascot depicting the 26th president finally finished first, The Washington Post's "DC Sports Bog" reported. #Teddyin2012 instantly became a trending topic on Twitter nationwide.  Patch has compiled tweets from a few Nats fans and other people reacting to Teddy's win. Teddy Says He'll Win the Nats' Home Opener Race

In their last public appearance before Thursday's home opener, Teddy, Tom and George visited Greenspring Retirement Community in Springfield, Va. Abe had another engagement. The Washington Nationals open their home season at Nationals Park at 1:05 p.m. Thursday against the Cincinnati Reds. The Nats are 4-2 on the season, having just won two games in their three-game series against the New York Mets. While at Greenspring, the president's ran their race—Tom won—then visited with residents and their guests. In addition to posing for pictures, Teddy, Tom and George flirted with the ladies, played cards with the residents, and shot some pool. Nationals Home Opener Spoiler Alert: The Nats topped the Reds, 3-2, on a wild pitch in the 10th. Brad Lidge blew the save in the 9th by giving up a two-run single that got by Ryan Zimmerman. (Ugh. All's well that ends well, but are we missing Drew Storen yet, Nats fans?) No word yet on how Teddy fared. Anyone go to the game and care to file a report on the Presidents' Race?   more ›
