Rockville's Holiday Drive Reaches the Thanksgiving Home Stretch

Food drive ends Wednesday. Toy and gift certificates are still needed for December.

  The first phase of the City of Rockville’s annual holiday drive is in the home stretch as Thanksgiving approaches. But there are still plenty of opportunities to give and to volunteer. Food donations for Thanksgiving baskets will be accepted at city facilities through the close of business on Wednesday. Rockville Holiday Drive Feeds 500 Families

Volunteers packed and distributed "baskets" with all the fixings for a Thanksgiving dinner.

Volunteers were busy filling holiday "baskets" in Rockville Town Center on Saturday for city residents who might otherwise not have a holiday meal this weekend. Each basket—actually a sturdy cardboard box—received food items such as dinner rolls, macaroni and cheese, stuffing, potatoes, onions and soup. Every family receiving the fixings for a dinner also received a gift card to a grocery store where they could purchase a turkey or other protein item of their choice. The idea was to be sure that everyone had a meal to sit down to on Thanksgiving Day.
