The former swim coach is accused of having a sexual relationship with a female swim student in the 1980s.
Rick Curl, a former swim coach who trained Olympic athletes and founded a prominent Washington, DC-area swim club, pleaded guilty Thursday to sex abuse, The Washington Post reports. Curl is accused of having a sexual relationship with his former swim student, Kelley Currin, in the 1980s, when Currin was a teenager and Curl was in his 30s. Currin and Curl both appeared in court Thursday, The Post reports. Curl, 63, has stepped down from his position at the Curl-Burke Swim Club, now known as the Nation's Capital Swim Club, and has been banned from USA Swimming. Timothy Vincent Krupica, a fifth grade teacher at Meadow Hall Elementary School, has been charged with sex abuse.
Sex abuse charges were filed against a Rockville elementary school teacher, police reported Thursday, stemming from allegations that he molested two female students. Timothy Vincent Krupica, 30, of Frederick, MD, was arrested Thursday. He was charged with sexually abusing a minor and several sex-offense charges, according to court records accessed online. A bail review hearing was set for 1 p.m. Friday. Krupica is a fifth grade teacher at Meadow Hall Elementary School in Rockville, school officials confirmed. Krupica has worked at the school since 2009. Police said the reported abuse occurred between September 2012 and February 2013. Curl has trained atheletes including Olympic gold medalists and world record breakers. He is the founder of the well-known Curl-Burke Swim Club, which recently changed its name to the Nation’s Capital Swim Club in the wake of the allegations.
