Apartments, a drug store and a bank are in the mix for downtown revitalization.
Several redevelopment projects planned for Rockville Town Center’s second phase were mentioned at Tuesday’s meeting of the Town Center Action Team. Here’s a brief overview of a few of those redevelopment projects: Bank of America building, 255 N. Washington St. KSI Services Inc. filed a proposed use permit in 2006 for what is described on the city’s website as “a multi-story condominium complex with live/work and commercial units on the first floor.” Click here for a rendering of an earlier version of that proposal. Nancy Regelin, an attorney for KSI and Cornerstone, which owns the property, said at Tuesday’s TCAT meeting that the preliminary development plan approved in 2004 called for 325 units with retail on the first floor. Town Center Action Team reconvenes to consider new development and next steps.
In search of a unifying vision for the second phase of Rockville Town Center redevelopment, city residents and officials reconvened the Town Center Action Team on Tuesday. About 30 people attended a meeting at City Hall, including Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio, City Council members Bridget Donnell Newton and Mark Pierzchala and city planning chief Jim Wasilak. Residents, officials and one representative of developers expressed concern that, unlike the first phase of Town Center redevelopment—in which the city worked closely with developers and businesses to build Rockville Town Square, the second phase thus far has nothing tying it together. “It’s a concern about the piecemealing that’s going to happen,” Marcuccio said. Plans in the works The…
