Rockville’s Planning Commission will hold its final public hearing on a proposal to drastically transform a portion of Rockville Pike at the city’s southern border, a pedestrian unfriendly stretch clogged with car traffic and old-school strip malls. The public hearing on the final draft of the Rockville Pike Plan is set for 7 p.m. at Rockville City Hall. Written testimony will be accepted until close-of-business on Friday, May 31. The Pike Plan addresses the nearly 400 acres in the two miles between Richard Montgomery Drive and the southern city limits, just north of Bou Avenue. The Rockville Planning Commission discussed a final draft of the Rockville Pike’s Plan during its meeting Feb. 13. On Wednesday, The Gazette highlighted some of what the plan envisioned, although much of it may not be completed for decades: Also of interest is incresed development near Twinbrook Metro station, which means more people on foot, on bikes and in cars. The purpose of Rockville’s local economy is to provide the material goods for the community so that a good quality of life can be achieved for its residents. Currently, the City of Rockville meets and/or exceeds every indicator of a successful local economy, according to the "cooperative forecasting" for Rockville population, household and employment, which is done by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments. If anyone has traveled in NYC during rush hour, cops keep (or at least try) the main arteries flowing. Rockville Pike should be easier as we are talking one main strip, maybe add in Veirs Mill Road/Rt 28 as well..... Have the cops take control and keep the traffic flowing in place of the traffic lights for the critical hours. Do not allow left turners to "overflow" the left turn lane (especially …   more ›
