A judge has postponed sentencing for the Rockville youth who supplied the gun used in a double shooting at the Rockville Metro station so he can finish his GED, The Gazette reported. Montgomery County Circuit Court Judge Marybeth McCormick moved sentencing to June 14 so that Tavares D. Harris, 19, of the 700 block of Fallsgrove Drive, could complete his degree, according to The Gazette. Kevin Q. Nguyen, of the 300 block of North Van Buren Street, pleaded guilty Dec. 10 to firing the handgun—supplied by Harris—at the east entrance of the station around 2:30 p.m. on May 18, Patch reported. A 17-year-old Rockville boy pleaded guilty in Montgomery County Circuit Court on Monday to attempted second-degree murder in connection with a double shooting at the Rockville Metro station in May, The Gazette reported. Kevin Q. Nguyen, of the 300 block of North Van Buren Street, faces up to 50 years in prison. Nguyen’s defense attorneys told The Gazette that they will seek “the shortest sentence possible” for Nguyen, who faces a mandatory minimum five years in prison for pleading guilty to use of a handgun in a violent crime. An 18-year-old Rockville man was found guilty Tuesday of first-degree assault and use of a handgun in a violent crime for the shooting at the Rockville Metro station in May. Tavares D. Harris, of the 700 block of Fallsgrove Drive, was facing a number of charges in Montgomery County Circuit Court in Rockville, but the jury remained undecided on attempted first- and second-degree murder and conspiracy to commit murder, The Gazette reported, after a third day of delibrations. Two Richard Montgomery High School students are charged as adults.
An 18-year-old from Rockville “aided and abetted” a fellow Richard Montgomery High School student who opened fire at the Rockville Metro station and wounded two people in May, prosecutors said during opening statements in the trial of Tavares D. Harris on Monday in Montgomery County Circuit Court in Rockville, The Gazette reported.
