Barricade Situation in Twinbrook Ends Peacefully

Police: A woman threatened suicide with a gun; dismissal delayed for students at nearby school.

  A barricade situation at a home in Rockville’s Twinbrook neighborhood ended peacefully Tuesday afternoon, police said. Montgomery County and Rockville city police responded around 3 p.m. to a call in the 13000 block of Okinawa Avenue for a woman who was threatening suicide with a firearm, Officer Janelle Smith, a county police spokeswoman, said. Around 4 p.m. the woman voluntarily came out of the house without incident, said Officer Britta Thomas, a county police spokeswoman. Students who walk home from Twinbrook Elementary School were held until the situation was resolved, Maj. Michael W. England said in an email obtained by Rockville Patch. City police will be ‘freezin’ for a reason’ with another dip in the Bay.

Rockville city police will take a chilly dip in the Chesapeake Bay again in January as the department participates in the 17th Annual Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge. The plunge, set for Jan. 26 at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis, features thousands taking a dip to raise money for Special Olympics Maryland. Save the Date for the 2013 Polar Bear Plunge

The 17th annual run into the chilly Chesapeake Bay will take place Jan. 26 at Sandy Point State Park in Annapolis.

  Before you know it, 2013 will be here and so will the annual Maryland State Police Polar Bear Plunge. Each year, thousands take a quick dip in the Chesapeake Bay to raise funds for Special Olympics Maryland. The Plungefest, which is open to the public, is set for Jan. 26, at Sandy Point State Park. Frigid Friday for participating schools will take place the day before the Plungefest. Participants in the plunge must collect a minimum of $50 in pledges—and if they're younger than 18, they must have a parent or guardian's written consent. It's still early but more than $200,000 has already been raised for Special Olympics Maryland, according to the event's website, which also has a running countdown until the event.
