What's going on in Annapolis that affects Montgomery County?
'Tis the season, when dozens of legislators from Montgomery County file into Annapolis to create and pass (or shut down) a bevy of new laws that may or may not change our daily lives. The Maryland General Assembly convened Jan. 9 and won't adjourn until April. Since you can't be there, keeping an eye on lawmakers from your town, we'll be rounding up some of their more important deeds each week. Here's some what our county delegation did recently: Del. County Councilman could be among crowded Democratic field in 2014.
It’s no secret that Montgomery County Councilman Philip M. Andrews plans to run for Montgomery County Executive in 2014. Now, with 2014 just 361 days away, Andrews has launched a website, the political blog Maryland Juice reported Friday. PhilAndrews.com includes the flag “Phil Andrews for Montgomery County Executive” and tells visitors: “We'll be adding material to our new website over the coming weeks; please return to see what's new!” It also includes a place to sign up to volunteer for the campaign and—as any good campaign site should—a place to donate money. A vote on a legal services contract is also on the agenda.
A presentation by Montgomery County Councilman Philip M. Andrews, a stormwater management ordinance, presentations on financial audits for fiscal 2012 and on city contracting and a vote on a legal services contract highlight the Rockville City Council’s agenda for Monday. The council also is scheduled to vote on the purchase of three new refuse trucks and the purchase of playground equipment to replace equipment destroyed in a fire at Rockville Civic Center Park last month.
