Poll: What’s the Ravens’ Biggest Edge in Super Bowl XLVII?
Vote on which facet of the game will result in the team hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
Vote on which facet of the game will result in the team hoisting the Vince Lombardi Trophy.
At least one Washington Post writer thinks so.
As the Ravens prepare to face the 49ers in Sunday's Super Bowl—and with the Redskins having long since begun their own off-season—Washington fans are once again faced with a conundrum: should they back Baltimore? It's a question many Washingtonians confronted in recent seasons as the Ravens racked up four playoff appearances to the Redskins' none. But with the arrival of rookie sensation Robert Griffin III and the team's first signs of postseason life since 2007, has the calculus changed? For one Washington Post writer, the answer is still simple: Hail to the Ravens. Craig Timberg, an admitted Baltimore fan, says it's a no-brainer given the Ravens' many parallels to the Lombardi-winning Redskins clubs of yore: a stout defense, a great …

Are the Ravens your team now?
The hearts of D.C. are broken and RGIII's knee might be too. But the playoff rolls on even if the Redskins don't. So we want to know what team you'll be rooting for to win the Super Bowl, or if you even care at all. (I mean, hockey's back just in time.) Will you be sporting purple to support the Maryland's other team, the Ravens? Who's your team now? Tell us in the comments.

Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III's knee gave way in Sunday's playoff game, raising questions about the decision to keep him in.
It's the talk of the Washington water cooler this morning: should RGIII have stayed in? For those who missed Sunday's wild card matchup at FedEx Field between the Washington Redskins and the Seattle Seahawks, suffice it to say that it was not a happy affair for the Burgundy and Gold. After building up a 14-0 lead against the red hot Seahawks, Redskins quarterback Robert Griffin III appeared to aggravate a lingering right knee injury incurred against the Baltimore Ravens on Dec. 9. Though the signal-caller showed signs of pain and limited mobility, Griffin reportedly told Coach Mike Shanahan he was still up to the task. Shanahan evidently agreed, keeping his starter in the game even as a total lack of production by the 'Skins offense helped…

Yes, Coach S should have pulled RGIII at half-time. Cousins already proved he coulds step in and win games. That would have been their best chance to win.   more ›
Sunday's home playoff games in Landover and Baltimore will bring in $2.5 million each, state comptroller Peter Franchot told The Washington Post.
While Sunday's football schedule is shaping up to be a dream day for fans of the Washington Redskins and Baltimore Ravens, it's also a financial boon for the state. The Redskins and Ravens games — each hosting Sunday's NFL wild card round playoffs — are expected to net approximately $2.5 million in taxes for Maryland, state comptroller Peter Franchot told The Washington Post . Franchot said the increase in taxes is expected to come from "sales of high-priced playoff tickets, souvenirs, and concessions as well as taxes on bonuses for players and coaches," among other places, according to the report. “When both teams are in the playoffs, there’s a synergistic impact where folks just feel better in Maryland, and when folks feel better there’s…

Traditional NFL rivalry heightened by playoff implications.
Late Sunday night, either the Washington Redskins or Dallas Cowboys will be crowned champions of the NFC East and earn a home playoff game in January. In the DC Metro area, the buzz is deafening, but there is significant national interest in the game as well. An ESPN.com poll asking, "Which team are you rooting for in the Cowboys-Redskins game in Week 17 that will decide the NFC East title?" has garnered more than 214,000 votes. Seventy-three percent (representing 49 states) said they are rooting for the Redskins, while 27 percent, representing a lone (star) state are pulling for the Cowboys. FedEx Field promises to be electric. If you are lucky enough to have your tickets already, the parking lots are opening earlier than usual (3:30 p.m…

The Redskins stunned the Saints in New Orleans, 40-32; the Ravens rolled over the Cincinnati Bengals at home on Monday Night Football.
Could week 1 have possibly gone any better for the two NFL teams separated by merely an hour on I-95? The Washington Redskins were road underdogs featuring a rookie, albeit highly-touted rookie, quarterback playing in a hostile environment against a former Super Bowl MVP quarterback. The Baltimore Ravens faced adversity of their own, missing the NFL's 2011 Defensive MVP, Terrell Suggs, and coping with the recent death of former owner Art Modell. Both teams passed week 1 tests with flying colors. The Redskins, led by No. 2 overall pick Robert Griffin III, stunned the New Orleans Saints, 40-32, at the Louisiana Superdome. The Ravens rolled over the Cincinnatti Bengals on Monday Night Football, 44-13. We want to know your impressions on the …

I certainly had no expectation of that Sunday performance by the Redskins and really had considered the Saints a "lock" to win. It's a bit too early to lose perspective but the potential is exciting.   more ›
Training camp for Robert Griffin III and the Washington Redskins opened Thursday in Ashburn, VA.
The Washington Redskins opened arguably the most anticipated training camp in the Dan Snyder era Thursday with fans awash in excitement for the official debut of new franchise quarterback Robert Griffin III. As The Washington Post's Jason Reid put it: Forget about the [Redskins’] past two disappointing seasons under Coach Mike Shanahan. Never utter John Beck’s name again. The Redskins got a sorely needed fresh start when they drafted rookie quarterback Robert Griffin III, and this season his development is all that matters. As important as Griffin's development may be, fans still want to see the team win, and do so sooner than later. Is the No. 2 overall draft pick's presence enough to help the team improve on its 5-11 record from a …

Young athletes looking for inspiration need go no further than Richard Montgomery High School this weekend, where up to 20 NFL players will be on hand for a day of free instruction, programming and giveaways. The inaugural Root 53 Foundation Football Camp will run from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday. Organizers expect about 180 sixth- through eighth-graders to take advantage of the event, said Neal Owens, head football coach at Richard Montgomery High School. The camp will serve as a kickoff event for Root 53 Foundation, a nonprofit recently started by Rockville native and NFL player Moise Fokou, who currently plays linebacker for the Philadelphia Eagles. Okay, Go Skins! There are probably more Skins fans in Rockville. I am just bitter because the TV contract plays Redskins games over Ravens when they are on at the same time. I wish the former Ravens who are now Skins well (John Beck, Donte Stallworth, Chris Chester, Josh Wilson). I was sad to see Wilson go he was a very good corner last year.   more ›
