Police are treating the shooting death of Michelle Miller, 17, as a murder-suicide.
A Rockville High School student was shot and killed by a 31-year-old Army staff sergeant, who then turned the gun on himself inside his Germantown home, Montgomery County police said in a news release. Michelle Miller, 17, of the 5100 block of Russett Road in Rockville, was found dead Monday morning in the home of Adam Anthony Arndt, 31, of the 12900 block of Pinnacle Drive, police said. Investigators are treating the deaths as a murder-suicide. Police said Miller and Arndt knew each other because she had plans to enlist in the U.S. Army Reserve after she graduated from high school. Montgomery County police recall Ayala's sacrifice in 2010.
Three years ago Thursday, Sgt. Hector I. Ayala of the Montgomery County Police Department died when responding to a call to help a fellow officer. An MCPD Facebook post Thursday remembered Sgt. Ayala and his sacrifice. Ayala's wife was pregnant with triplets at the time of his death. Two months later, she gave birth to three girls. Standford Wilson Jr., 61, died from his injuries, Montgomery County police said.
(UPDATED) A Gaithersburg man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Derwood on Friday. According to police, Standford Wilson Jr., 61, of the 20000 block of Mattingly Terrace, died at a local hospital from injuries he suffered when his BMW X5 veered off Shady Grove Road and struck several trees and a fence. The crash occurred at around 12:20 p.m., just west of Muncaster Mill Road. Police have not determined what caused Wilson’s vehicle to leave the roadway. The fatal crash shut down the westbound lane of Shady Grove Road, between Mill Run and Muncaster Mill. Police have asked that anyone with information about this crash call 240-773-6620. A 52-year-old Germantown man was arrested for 10 commercial robberies and two street robberies in Montgomery County.
A Germantown man suspected of 10 commercial robberies and two street robberies in Montgomery County — including two in the Rockville area — was arrested during a traffic stop in Gaithersburg Feb. 17, Montgomery County police announced Wednesday. Duane James, 52, of the 18600 block of Mustard Seed Court, was charged with two counts of armed robbery, having a handgun in a vehicle and the use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, police said. After his arrest, James was charged with nine additional armed robbery charges and three first-degree assault charges. District station serving Rockville is colocated with police headquarters in Gaithersburg.
Montgomery County’s police began operating under new, realigned district boundaries starting Monday. Second District police now cover most of Potomac, while the 1st District continues to focus on Rockville and areas closer to the new district station at the Public Safety Headquarters. The changes will improve service to residents, giving districts a more balanced work load, according to a Montgomery County Police Department statement. Last month, police co-located the 1st District station with Montgomery County Police Department headquarters in Gaithersburg.
