What is it with Montgomery County and concrete? If these structures are passing inspections as they are being built, there must be something drastically wrong. If I'm not mistaken, the Macy's garage at Westfield Wheaton was delayed due to faulty concrete construction, Costco was delayed due to faulty concrete, the Silver Spring Transit Center has faulty concrete construction, and now one …   more ›

Montgomery County Offers Tips for Pedestrian Safety

Holiday shopping traffic and less daylight mean more danger on the roads. Here's what to remember when driving, walking or biking.

With the approaching holiday season meaning more traffic on Montgomery County streets and in shopping center parking lots and the end of daylight savings time making it harder for drivers to see pedestrians, county officials on Tuesday launched the “Eyes” campaign to promote pedestrian safety. The county’s Department of Transportation offers these tips: Drivers: Pedestrians: Bicyclists: For more information see this news release on the “Eyes” and “Shop With a Cop” campaigns or click here to visit the county’s pedestrian safety website.

Montgomery County to Pedestrians and Drivers: Here's 'Looking At You'

New campaign uses Ride On buses to promote pedestrian safety.

William Linkens sees it all the time.  A pedestrian focused on a smart phone as they approach a busy street. “I see so many people come into the crosswalk—or maybe not even the crosswalk, just to cross the street—and their head never looks up,” said Linkens, a 12-year veteran driver of Montgomery County’s Ride On buses. Ride On is at the heart of a safety campaign that Montgomery County officials hope will prevent pedestrian fatalities on county roads. Two Ride On buses parked on East Montgomery Avenue in Rockville Town Center on Tuesday morning bore the campaign slogan, “Hey you, I’m looking at you!” above a pair of eyes. The eyes–two sets on two different versions of the bus-sized ads—belong to one current and one former student at …
