Rockville is Collecting Coats for the Needy

A citywide coat drive continues through Thursday.

  A citywide coat drive is in its final days. The City of Rockville is partnering with national nonprofit One Warm Coat to collect old and new jackets and coats to help people in need stay warm this winter. The drive continues through Thursday. Cleaning out your closets? Updating your wardrobe? Have your children outgrown their coat or jacket? Rockville Police to Hold 'Meet and Greets' This Week

Three community meetings will give residents chances to ask questions of officers and staff.

  Rockville residents have three chances this week to get better acquainted with the people who protect and serve the city. The Rockville City Police Department is holding community meetings across the city beginning Tuesday, according to a city news release. Officers and staff from the department’s animal control, community services, community enhancement/code enforcement, investigations, patrol units and traffic enforcement personnel units will be on hand to answer questions.  “We are hoping to see a lot of our residents at these meetings,” Chief Terrance N. Treschuk said in the release. “It’s important to us that people see us out in the community, getting to know them and hearing firsthand what their concerns and questions are.” The …

Lincoln Park to Host Outdoor Family Film on Thursday

'Family Movie Night in the Park' will feature adaptation of Dr. Seuss's "The Lorax."

  If you’re looking for some last-minute family time before the kids go back to school, look no further than Lincoln Park. The Lincoln Park Community Center welcomes neighbors for "Family Movie Night in the Park" on Thursday. The screen adaptation of the Dr. Seuss favorite The Lorax will be shown on a big screen in Isreal Park behind the center, beginning at sundown, which is at 7:53 p.m. Thursday. (What better movie to show outdoors than the environmentally conscious Lorax?) Thursday night will be a great night for an outdoor movie. So says the National Weather Service, which is forecasting partly cloudy skies (to make it more dark in park—all the better for movie projection) and an overnight low around 66. Rockville Ready to 'Jam' Into a New School Year

Annual Back to School Jam to be held at Lincoln Park Community Center on Friday.

  City residents in need of school supplies—or just hoping to get a question answered by school officials—should head over to the Lincoln Park Community Center on Friday. The center hosts Rockville’s 12th annual Back to School Jam from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. “Come on out, bring proof of residence, have fun with the kids and get as much information as you can about the upcoming school year,” center supervisor Yvette Yeboah said in an interview Wednesday with Rockville Patch. The school year kickoff celebration allows families to meet school officials, participate in free health screenings and sign up for after-school activities and other city programs. VIDEO: Back to School Jam

The City of Rockville held it's annual Back To School Jam at the Lincoln Park Community Center on Friday.  Hundreds of people came out to the event where kids could get backpacks filled with school supplies.  Not only were there giveaways, but various booths were giving out information varying from nutrition to activities kids could join during the school year. Patch stopped the Lincoln Park Community Center to talk to Yvette Yeboah about the event.
