Extreme Clean in Twinbrook: Two Tons of Trash Cleared From Rock Creek Park

Volunteers from real estate development firm worked with Rock Creek Conservancy for ‘Extreme Cleanup’

On what was dubbed the Twinbrook Extreme Cleanup, nearly 50 volunteers cleared away 4,000 pounds of debris along the Twinbrook portion of Rock Creek Park on Saturday, company officials announced. For the second year in a row, volunteers with JBG Companies, a Chevy-Chase-based real estate company, teamed up with Rock Creek Conservancy. This year, the crews set out to do some extreme cleaning in a wooded area off Fishers Lane near a few of JBG's developments—Twinbrook Station, the Health and Human Services campus and the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Disease building, which is under construction. The folks at JBG submitted this photo to Patch on Monday.

This group collected a lot of trash on Saturday. Thanks for JBG Companies and its sponsors for providing coffee and bagels early and hot dogs after the hard work. Even a young family with two young kids from the Parklawn Day Care participated in the cleanup. It was their first volunteer project. Apparently the Rock Creek Conservancy have been sponsoring these event for 5 years. Congratulations to…   more ›

Planners Approve Mixed-Use Project on Giant Site in Rockville Town Center

Development plans now go before staff as part of a process the city is reconsidering.

The Rockville Planning Commission on Wednesday approved plans to tear down the old Giant Food building in Town Center and build an office-retail project. Chevy Chase-based JBG Companies plans to build a 25,100-square-foot building, with a Bank of America branch, retail and/or a restaurant on the ground floor, 13,600 square feet of office space on the second floor and underground parking. The commission voted 6 to 1 on the preliminary plans to subdivide the property at 275 N. Washington St. Commissioner David Hill voted against the subdivision. Hill said the city should not subdivide property in the second phase of Town Center redevelopment, when in the first phase—which included building Rockville Town Square—the city combined properties…

Improvement to this site would not happen if a developer/owner does not invest money in the project. Maryland Avenue extended is in the City Master Plan so the project will be effect by that demand. It will be a nice improvement to the Town Center to see that site develop.   more ›

Planners to Consider Mixed-Use Proposal for Giant Site in Rockville Town Center

Retail-office project on the former store site would be the first piece of 'Town Center II.'

The former Giant Food site, a long-abandoned eyesore in Rockville Town Center, could be transformed into a vibrant mix of shopping, offices and apartments under a plan the Rockville Planning Commission is scheduled to consider Wednesday night. The commission meets at 7 p.m. at City Hall. The meeting will be broadcast live on Rockville 11. Chevy Chase-based JBG Companies is proposing to demolish the Giant building as early as spring, making way for a two-story office-retail building at 275 N. Washington St. The building would include a new home for the Bank of America branch presently located at 255 N. Washington St. The commission also will consider JBG’s proposal to divide the 3.14-acre site into two parcels. The parcel along North …

Rockville is so fortunate to have a company willing to invest in improving the current Giant property. As Jeff stated, improving that site is "long overdue." JBG has been good to Rockville and listens to its citizens' input. For Town Center to be successful it needs to expand. Look at the success of the Rio Project in Gaithersburg.   more ›

Rock Creek Cleanup Nets 100 Bags of Trash

JBG Companies sponsored Twinbrook site for annual Rock Creek Conservancy project.

More than 60 volunteers spent four hours Saturday cleaning up Rock Creek in Twinbrook as part of the Rock Creek Conservancy's fourth annual Extreme Cleanup. The JBG Companies sponsored the cleanup in Twinbrook, where Chevy Chase-based JBG is building several projects. The Twinbrook site was one of 65 throughout the Rock Creek watershed. Another cleanup is planned for April 28 in Kensington. About 2,000 volunteers participated in Saturday's cleanup region-wide, Braeden Bumpers, a Chesapeake Conservation Corps volunteer with the Rock Creek Conservancy, said in a news release from JBG. “This could be our most successful yet,” Bumpers said of the cleanup. The Twinbrook totals for trash and junk removed from the park could lead the day’s …

With HHS Lease Reaffirmed, NIAID is on Deck for Twinbrook

GAO: A new 15-year lease of the Parklawn Building was properly evaluated.

Twinbrook’s future as a hub for federal facilities will get its second boost in three days as JBG Companies breaks ground on the new National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases building on Fishers Lane on Wednesday morning. On Monday, the U.S. Government Accountability Office denied the final protests of three developers seeking to move the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services out of the Parklawn Building, The Washington Post reported. In March, the U.S. General Services Administration awarded a $450 million, 15-year lease to JBG to keep HHS and its 3,000 employees in the building on Fishers Lane near the Twinbrook Metro station. The developer is spending $270 million to renovate 932,391 square feet of office space in the…
