MC Jazz Ensemble Hosts Howard University

The Montgomery College Jazz Ensemble welcomed a special guest on Tuesday as the Howard University Jazz Ensemble visited and performed at the Rockville campus. Both groups, each which performed as part of MC's College Ensemble Series, incorporate musicians from Montgomery County public high schools. They also share another connection. Montgomery College music professor and MC Jazz Ensemble Director Alvin Trask is a Howard alumnus. Howard University Jazz Ensemble Director Fred Irby III taught Trask at Howard. Trask invited the university's jazz ensemble to play with the college's ensemble and has fostered a collaboration between the schools in which several Montgomery College musicians have continued their educations at Howard.
