City parks director: Caution key in canceling Sunday concert by country's Easton Corbin.
Hometown Holidays 2012 went off without a hitch—save for one big cancellation called in by Mother Nature. Sunday’s headlining concert by Easton Corbin was called off shortly before the rising country star was to take the stage as city officials tracked a line of severe thunderstorms—first by radar and then by scanning the horizon. “When we’re monitoring thunderstorms we’re very careful because we have a lot of people outside, including under a steel-framed tent,” said Burt Hall, the City of Rockville’s director of recreation and parks. The Corbin cancellation was the second time in two years that Hometown Holidays’ original headlining act had to be canceled. Last year, George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic was scratched from the …

Bruce in the USA headlined Saturday night’s Hometown Holidays entertainment.
Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band's summer tour is not coming to Rockville, so the city did the next best thing and invited Bruce in the USA to headline Saturday night’s Hometown Holidays show. The tribute band has been touring the country giving fans their fix of Springsteen’s hard rocking and soulful songs since 2004. “Are any Springsteen fans in the house?” Springsteen doppelganger Matt Ryan asked before signaling the band to start the opening cords of “Thunder Road.” The hundreds of fans that filled the parking lot between East Middle Lane and East Montgomery Avenue in Rockville Town Center were ready to party. The Nighthawks had set the tone with an opening set that brought some into a closed-off area near the stage to dance. …

Music, rides, food and crafts brought crowds to Rockville's annual street festival.
Monday, May 28, 2012
Food, fun and families packed Town Center for the first day of the festival on Saturday.
Every corner of Rockville Town Center moved to a different beat as music played on eight stages set up between East Montgomery and Beall avenues Saturday. Rockville’s 24th annual Hometown Holidays showcased the diversity that is the city today. Janet Kelly of the city’s Human Rights and Community Mediation Administration staffed a table where visitors could get their names written in languages spoken among the city’s immigrants — Russian, Chinese, Hebrew, Bulgarian, Arabic and Korean. A diversity wheel was filled with questions about the traditions and pop culture of the various populations. Everybody who played won a prize. More than 18 restaurants and grocers sold food highlighting the different cultures. Visitors had their choice of …

The Memorial Day weekend street festival will be held May 26-28 in Rockville Town Center. Corbin will perform on the main stage on Sunday night. Corbin's self-titled debut album, released in 2010, recorded two No. 1 singles on Billboard's country chart: "A Little More Country Than That" and the follow-up "Roll With It." His sophomore album is due out later this year. "We're excited about having a country band," Kimball said. "It's been a while since we've had a country band headline Hometown Holidays."
