Patch.com is launching a nationwide contest to find the best dressed home in its Patch communities, and the winner’s school district will receive $100,000, no strings attached. Here’s how the contest works. Beginning on Dec. 8 and continuing through Dec. 26, you can nominate your home by uploading a photo to the contest entry form on the site. During that same time period you and your neighbors will also be able to vote for your favorite festive home. The winning entry will be forwarded to a national Patch judge that will select 24 finalists. Each finalist will receive $500 that they can apply to their December electric bill. More than 38 million people expected to drive to their Thanksgiving destination this year.
With Thanksgiving less than 24-hours away, AAA is projecting that more than 42 million people will travel 50 miles or more for the holiday. According to a AAA release, the projected numbers are a four percent increase from the more than 40 million people who traveled for Thanksgiving in 2010. Lon Anderson, a spokesman for AAA said some improvement in the economy has triggered the increase in travel for the holiday this year. “The economy has improved enough that people are saying ‘That’s it, we’re traveling for Thanksgiving this year’,” Anderson said.
