Magruder Girls Fall to Clarksburg in Season Opener

Clarksburg point guard's 27 points too much for Lady Colonels

Magruder High's girls varsity basketball team opened the season with a 55-42 home loss to the Clarksburg Coyotes on Thursday in a game that featured gritty, physical play, plenty of drives to the bucket and some hard fouls. The game started slowly with both teams struggling to get in sync after a long offseason, before picking up the pace halfway through the first quarter. The Colonels got out to an early 7-4 lead riding the aggressive play of freshman Adjowa Pinkrah and senior Amanda Witmer. Unfortunately for the Colonels, Clarksburg senior point guard Anna Hackett had other plans. Hackett, who will play at Salisbury University next year, scored 20 of her 27 points in the first half.
