The chef behind Rockville's newest restaurant is headed north in January.
Chef Geoff Tracy—owner and mastermind behind six Washington, DC-area restaurants, including the new Chef Geoff's Rockville—is moving to New York City. Tracy's wife, Norah O'Donnell, recently accepted a new job as co-host of CBS This Morning, a morning news show the network started earlier this year to replace its "perennially last place morning show, then called The Early Show,"The New York Times reported. But, fans are not to worry. The restaurants that bear his name—and two Tracy-owned establishments that don't—will continue to operate, with Tracy checking in frequently. Chef Geoff Tracy is on the move. The Washington, DC restaurateur is set to open his sixth restaurant—and fourth Chef Geoff’s—in Rockville on Wednesday. Meanwhile, Tracy is moving to New York City, where his wife, television journalist Norah O’Donnell, recently began a new gig as co-anchor of CBS This Morning. Tracy still will be checking in on his DC restaurants. (He plans to stay in DC fulltime until January as the Rockville restaurant gets up to speed.) Restauranteur Geoff Tracy brings his popular take on American cuisine to Rockville Pike.
Chef Geoff’s is coming to Rockville. The restaurant group opened its first location in 2000 and has since made a name—that of owner Geoff Tracy—serving contemporary American cuisine in a casual atmosphere. The new Rockville location will open on Sept. 12, Tracy announced on his website. Chef Geoff's Rockville will occupy the former home of Houston’s and the short-lived Againn Tavern, at 12256 Rockville Pike. Tracy hinted about a Rockville location via Twitter in July 2011. Last month, Patch’s “1 Meat, 3 Sides” column cited a Zagat report that the opening was imminent.
