Rasheeda Brown will appear on season 4 of Food Network's "Worst Cooks in America," premiering Sunday night.
Rasheeda Brown’s Food Network bio says it all: “She’s notorious for either severely overcooking or undercooking food and even manages to burn frozen pizza in the microwave.” But each failure has its hidden reward. For Brown, culinary ineptness made her a prime candidate for Season 4 of the Food Network’s “Worst Cooks in America.” The season premieres 7 p.m. Sunday on the Food Network. Under the tutelage of chefs Anne Burrell and Bobby Flay, Brown and 13 of her kitchen-maladroit brethren will transform into “fearless culinary masters.” The contestants hope to flambé their way to the $25,000 grand prize and the title of being the best—of the worst. By Emily Hooper Capital News Service ROCKVILLE—When Ype Von Hengst showed up at the Marine Corps Marathon in October 2008, the then-58-year-old wondered what he had gotten himself into: Before the 26-mile race, the longest distance he ever ran was five miles. But three missing toenails, six hours and 16 minutes later, Von Hengst crossed the finish line. Three weeks ago he tested himself again, this time competing in the Tough Mudder challenge, a rigorous nine-mile course designed by British Special Forces. Von Hengst, now 61, admitted that he had not trained for the event, which has competitors dodging fire and electrical lines. Only 78 percent of participants typically finish the course. Rockville’s CakeDreams recently won the Food Network's Cupcake Wars.
Business is booming at Rockville’s own CakeDreams since they defeated three other teams to capture first place on the Food Network’s Cupcake Wars. “Before the show, we were definitely busy,” said Jane-Marie Kane, assistant pastry chef. “Since then, we’ve literally been crazy!” Crazy in a good way, judging by the reaction of the customers following them on Facebook and Twitter, not to mention those who come from near and far to make their way in and out of the small storefront on West Montgomery Avenue. “It’s our first time,” said customer Courtney Thomas, as she opened the box and took a small bite of her cupcake. “There’s so much frosting!
