Police chief: The suspects ranged in age from 14 to 16.
Fire officials are expected to release details Wednesday of an investigation into a fire that consumed the playground at Rockville Civic Center Park on Nov. 21. “The entire playground was destroyed by fire/arson,” Rockville city police Chief Terrance N. Treschuk said in an email. The incident occurred in the evening hours of Thanksgiving eve. Four suspects—ages 14 through 16—were located by city police officers that same evening, Treschuk said. The juveniles admitted to starting the fire and were turned over to the Montgomery County fire marshal's office for the filing of charges, he said. Rockville Little Theatre's final performances of Lillian Hellman's play are this weekend.
This weekend is your last chance to see Rockville Little Theatre perform this season. The city's community theater group concludes its 2011-2012 season with three performances of the Tony Award-nominated The Little Foxes by Lillian Herman at the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre. Rockville Little Theatre's Web site says this about the play: "The ruthless, moneyed Hubbard family lives in, and poisons, their part of the deep South at the turn of the 20th century in this caustic and engaging tale." Chief Treschuk: A bulletin board was smashed and a sculpture was damaged.
Rockville City Police are investigating vandalism that occurred overnight in front of the F. Scott Fitzgerald Theatre at Rockville Civic Center Park. The vandals struck sometime between the late evening hours of Tuesday and Wednesday morning and used cigarette receptacles outside the theater to smash the glass on a bulletin board that lists upcoming shows, city police Chief Terrance N. Treschuk said. Receptacles were taken, he said. Damage is estimated at about $300. A sculpture in front of the theater was knocked over, damaging its base, Treschuk said. “We are actively pursuing an investigation and asking anyone who might have seen any activity in the park in the early morning hours to contact us,” he said.
