Delaney Endorses Duncan for Montgomery County Executive

Delaney: 'Doug Duncan’s record speaks for itself and his values and expertise are well-known around our county.'

U.S. Rep. John Delaney on Saturday endorsed Douglas M. Duncan at the former Montgomery County Executive's first major campaign event in his bid to regain his old job. “Doug Duncan’s record speaks for itself and his values and expertise are well-known around our county,” Delaney (D-Dist. 6) of Potomac said in a statement released by Duncan’s campaign. “I know Doug has the long term vision to make our county a great place to work, live, start a business, raise a family, and he has a plan to make Montgomery work.” Duncan, a Democrat, served three terms as county executive from 1994 to 2006. In 2006, he sought the Democratic nomination for governor, before dropping out of the race, citing depression. After a hiatus, Duncan has decided to re-…

Report: Valerie Ervin To Join Crowded Race For Montgomery County Executive

The Examiner: County Councilwoman from Silver Spring Joins Leventhal, Andrews, and Duncan as Democratic candidates.

Montgomery County Councilwoman Valerie Ervin announced plans to join an already crowded Democratic field for the 2014 County Executive race, The Washington Examiner reported. Ervin (D-Dist. 5) of Silver Spring joins county councilmen George L. Leventhal (D-At Large) of Takoma Park and Philip M. Andrews (D-Dist.3) of Gaithersburg, and former County Executive Doug Duncan in the race, according to the report. County Executive Isiah Leggett (D) could still announce a run for re-election. Ervin, 55, said she'd had "serious discussions" with multiple community members, pollsters and media consultants about starting her campaign, according to the report. Doug Duncan Tells Supporters He Will Run for Montgomery County Executive

One of Montgomery's dominant political figures set to return to the political stage after six years.

After months of strategizing, Douglas M. Duncan has told supporters he has decided to run for an unprecedented fourth term in Montgomery County's highest political office, marking his return to politics after a six year-hiatus. Duncan, 57, met privately yesterday morning with political advisers and supporters in Gaithersburg to discuss his run for county executive and weigh the results of a recent poll by Harrison Hickman, the pollster for Al Gore and John Edwards' presidential bids. At the end of the meeting, Duncan told attendees that he would be entering the 2014 race, according to an email sent yesterday afternoon to supporters. “I am not seeking to return to the County Executive office simply because it is winnable—I am returning …

Montgomery Dems Ramp Up for County Exec Race

Former County Executive Doug Duncan met today with pollster and political advisers, according to CenterMaryland.org.

Will Doug Duncan—Montgomery’s longest-serving county executive—return for a run at an unprecedented fourth term? Duncan's political future came into clearer focus Tuesday after he met with advisers in Gaithersburg to mull the 2014 election, Josh Kurtz writes in CenterMaryland.org. The closed meeting hashed over the results of a new poll “that supposedly showed Duncan handily defeating every other potential Democratic candidate,” according to Kurtz. Speculation has long swirled that Duncan—who served as Montgomery’s executive from 1994 to 2006 before a gubernatorial campaign that ended with him dropping out, citing clinical depression—is primed for a return to county politics. If so, he would be joining a field that already has two …

Duncan Says He's 'Exploring Things' for 2014

Focus for now is Delaney's congressional bid, former county executive says.

Douglas M. Duncan said Tuesday nothing has changed as he contemplates his political future. “I’m looking at all my options,” Duncan said in a telephone interview. His comments followed a NewsChannel 8 report that he is narrowing his focus on a run for state comptroller or a bid to return as Montgomery County Executive. “I’m not running for governor, not running for Congress,” Duncan, the county executive from 1995 through 2007, told Rockville Patch. Duncan said he’s not particularly focused on the crowded field of potential candidates for comptroller, but is “exploring things” to see “where I’d be the best fit.” He said he has not conducted any polling, nor does he have any immediate plans to do so. “I’m going to a lot of events, talking …

Developer friend Duncan as our State Comptroller? God save Maryland from that scourge. Duncan ran Montgomery County into the ground with his over-the-top spending and big buck gifts to his developer buddies - in the most favorable economic climate ever he didn't do squat for the public. The former Rockville mayor could be part of a crowded field for comptroller.

Get daily and breaking news email updates from Rockville Patch by signing up for newsletters here. Comptroller Peter V.R. Franchot is expected to run for governor in 2014, a prospect discussed in this piece in The Washington Times in September. Doug Duncan Dishes on the Primary

The former county executive expressed frustration with Annapolis while working the polls for John Delaney on Tuesday.

Douglas M. Duncan went through the familiar motions of a candidate on Election Day on Tuesday evening at Robert Frost Middle School in Rockville. The former Rockville mayor, former three-term Montgomery County executive and one-time gubernatorial candidate greeted voters and answered questions. But this time his name wasn’t on the ballot. Duncan announced in November that we would not seek elected office this year after some speculation that he might run for Congress, The Washington Post reported. Instead, he backed John Delaney, who won the Democratic nomination for the 6th Congressional District on Tuesday. “If the idea was to get another Democrat in Congress, he’s by far the best for that,” Duncan said of Delaney on Tuesday. Delaney, a …

Survey Takes Aim at Region's Transportation Needs

A new Maryland transportation group joined its Virginia counterpart to identify the region's priorities.

The Corridor Cities Transitway, the Purple Line and bus rapid transit are the top transportation priorities for the Washington metropolitan region, according to results of a survey of transportation experts released Thursday. But experts surveyed list only one of those priorities—bus rapid transit—in the top three on a list of “game-changing” transportation investments that would have the greatest impact on the region in the next 20 years. Experts said that Metro improvements—particularly system maintenance, “would make the greatest difference in the next 20 years,” according to a report on the survey conducted by “The 2030 Group,” a partnership of the Northern Virginia Transportation Alliance and the Suburban Maryland Transportation …

The proposed TECHWAY returns! In my earlier post I said, "I didn't see the additional bridges over the Potomac in this article. Is that a future topic?" Today's Post confirmed the number one recommendation by the alliances headed by Til Hazel, Rich Parsons and Doug Duncan is to build new Potomac River bridges. How predictable is that? And you can bet these bridges will not be roads that just …   more ›
