Gaithersburg Man Killed in Derwood Crash

Standford Wilson Jr., 61, died from his injuries, Montgomery County police said.

(UPDATED) A Gaithersburg man was killed in a single-vehicle crash in Derwood on Friday. According to police, Standford Wilson Jr., 61, of the 20000 block of Mattingly Terrace, died at a local hospital from injuries he suffered when his BMW X5 veered off Shady Grove Road and struck several trees and a fence. The crash occurred at around 12:20 p.m., just west of Muncaster Mill Road. Police have not determined what caused Wilson’s vehicle to leave the roadway. The fatal crash shut down the westbound lane of Shady Grove Road, between Mill Run and Muncaster Mill. Police have asked that anyone with information about this crash call 240-773-6620. Suspect Charged in Death of Man Found In Car Trunk Near Shady Grove Metro

A 51-year-old Anne Arundel County man was charged with murder Tuesday in the death of John P. Ryan, whose body was found in the trunk of his car near Shady Grove Metro in December.

A 51-year-old Anne Arundel County man was arrested Tuesday at a New York airport in connection with the killing of a Frederick County man who was found dead in the trunk of his car near the Shady Grove Metro station in December, Maryland State Police announced in a press release. Michael A. Stahlnecker, of the 1700 block of Fallsway Drive in Crofton, is charged with first-degree murder, second-degree murder, first-degree assault, second-degree assault, reckless endangerment, and use of a firearm in the commission of a felony/violent crime, police said. A 37-year-old man who was found dead in the trunk of his car parked in a Montgomery County parking lot died from two gunshot wounds to the head, The Gazette reported. The body of John P. Ryan, of Frederick, MD, was found Dec. 3 in the trunk of his 2007 Lexus, police said. An undisclosed amount of cash and marijuana also was in the trunk. The car was found parked in a parking lot used by multiple businesses in the 15000 block of Somerville Drive in Derwood, MD. Maryland State Police are investigating a possible homicide of a Frederick County man whose body was found Monday in the trunk of his car parked in a Montgomery County lot. The body of John P. Ryan, 37, was found Monday afternoon in the trunk of his black 2007 Lexus LS460L, police said. The car was found parked in a parking lot used by multiple businesses in the 15000 block of Somerville Drive in Derwood, MD. The Shady Grove Metro station is located at 15903 Somerville Drive, but a Maryland State Police spokesperson would not disclose the specific lot in which the car was parked.   Update, 12:25 p.m., Nov. 14: A tractor trailer that overturned on top of a pickup truck, killing a Gaithersburg man and a Derwood man in Frederick County on Monday, had faulty brakes and was not registered to operate in Maryland, the Frederick News-Post reported Wednesday. It is not clear if the brakes played a role in the crash, state police told the News-Post. Jose C. Cedillo, 37, of Gaithersburg, the front-seat passenger in the pickup, was discharged Tuesday from University of Maryland R Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center in Baltimore, where he had been flown after the crash, a hospital spokeswoman told the News-Post. Gude Landfill Cleanup to be Discussed at Meeting Tonight

County environmental officials to present next steps for addressing toxins.

  Officials from the county’s Department of Environmental Protection Division of Solid Waste Services will detail plans for addressing toxins leaking into groundwater and the air from the Gude Landfill at a community meeting in Derwood tonight. County officials believe that the “trace amounts” of the toxins do not pose a health threat, but residents near the site are concerned, The Washington Post reported in May. The meeting will be held from 7 to 8:30 at the Montgomery County Service Park Building, at 16641 Crabbs Branch Way. Even if Mahatan is the first player eliminated, he is guaranteed a payout of $294,601.   A driver lost control of the car he was driving and flipped on top of a parked car in a driveway in Derwood about 2 a.m. Saturday morning, according to an eyewitness who captured photos of the aftermath of the accident. The crash occurred at Muncaster Mill Road and Heatherford Court. A county fire and rescue spokesman confirmed that a vehicle overturned at the intersection, but had few other details.
