College Plaza could be losing an anchor, but it is gaining new tenants. The future of the Magruder’s, an anchor for the 110,500-square-foot shopping center on Frederick Road in Rockville, is uncertain. Employees of the local supermarket chain said Tuesday they have been told by the store’s corporate office it will close in coming weeks. Greg Hull, College Plaza’s leasing agent with Combined Properties, which owns the center, said Tuesday he knew nothing of Magruder’s plans. New businesses are on deck for the center, Hull said. Police: Two of the boys used a pistol in robberies at Welsh Park and College Plaza.
A 13-year-old and a 14-year-old have been charged in three July robberies, including one in which police say a 12-year-old also participated, Rockville City Police announced. The boys used a pistol in two of the robberies, police said. In a third, in which the 12-year-old also was charged, four juvenile suspects implied that they had a weapon, police said. All three boys lived in Rockville at the time of the incidents, said Maj. Tim Marsh a Rockville City Police spokesman. All three were charged as juveniles, he said. Rockville Patch reported the Aug. 1 arrest of the 13-year-old for the armed robberies. The boy was later also charged in the strong-arm robbery, Marsh said. Rockville City Police arrested a 14-year-old on Tuesday in two armed robberies, city police announced. The juvenile was the second teen arrested in the July 31 incidents, which were reported about 40 minutes apart at Welsh Park and the College Plaza shopping center. A 13-year-old was arrested Wednesday and police continue to looks for a second suspect in two armed robberies last week, city police announced. The incidents were reported about 40 minutes apart at Welsh Park and the College Plaza shopping center in Rockville, city police said.
