Christmas and New Year's Closures in Rockville

Rockville and Montgomery County facilities will be operate on modified schedules over the holidays.

  All Montgomery County and City of Rockville facilities will be closed and no programs will operate on Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Holiday hours for city facilities are as follows: Recycling and refuse collection for Monday and for Dec. 31 will not be affected. Collection for the remainder of each week will shift forward one day, with Friday collection made on Saturday. The city also is recycling cut and artificial Christmas trees. Click here for details. Rockville City Offices and Facilities Closed Tuesday

Trash and recycling collection decision will be made Tuesday.

  With the arrival of Hurricane Sandy, the City of Rockville announced Monday evening that city offices and facilities will be closed for a second straight day on Tuesday. Essential personnel are required to report to work as directed. The following city facilities and programs also are closed or canceled: Click here for the latest on city closings and cancellations. Indoor pools will be open noon to 8 p.m. The rest of the facility will be open noon to 9 p.m. Recycling and trash will be not be collected. Most City Recreation Facilities Closed

Indoor pools only are open at the Swim and Fitness Center, which is without power.

Most City of Rockville facilities are closed and many recreation programs are canceled as the city cleans up from Friday’s storm. Many city facilities remain without power, the city announced in a news release on its Web site. Rockville summer camps and summer playground activities are canceled for Monday and Tuesday. Outdoor adult sports leagues will go on as scheduled. Classes will be held at the indoor pools at the Rockville Swim and Fitness Center. The indoor pools will be open to classes and center members only. All other classes are canceled. Summer Camps Canceled, No Decision on 4th of July Festivities

Facilities such as pools and libraries with power will be open during normal business hours. A decision has not yet been made regarding July 4 celebrations.

County-sponsored recreational activities are canceled for Monday and Tuesday as widespread power outages continue following Friday's storm. The Montgomery County Department of Recreation has canceled all scheduled events, including summer camp programs through Tuesday. County facilities such as pools and libraries with power will be open during scheduled operating hours, but customers are encouraged to call ahead before visiting. All community activities scheduled at the Montgomery County Public Schools building are also canceled through Tuesday because nearly 140 schools are still without power. The county has not yet made a decision on 4th of July festivities such as fireworks and parades. An announcement should come Tuesday.

County Schools Will Be Closed on Thursday

Officials decided Wednesday to keep schools closed for a second day in a row

Montgomery County Public Schools will be closed on Thursday, for the second day in a row, the school system announced just before 9 p.m. on Wednesday. No decision has been made yet on administrative offices. A budget worksession set for Thursday is been postponed to Feb. 8.
