With the start one week away, DC Restaurant Week aficionados know that now is the time to start planning. Over 200 DC-area restaurants will participate in Washington’s Restaurant Week on Feb. 4-10. With three-course meals costing $20.13 at lunch and $35.13 for dinner, restaurant week gives Washington diners a chance to sample some of the area’s finest restaurants for a fraction of the cost. The latest Rockville Town Square addition returns a restaurant to the Austin Grill's former home.
American Tap Room’s countdown to opening hit single digits on Monday. A sign in the restaurant and bar’s front window on Maryland Avenue in Rockville Town Square touted Tuesday’s opening as staff inside could be seen making final preparations. The restaurant, in the 6,500-square-foot former Austin Grill space, “redefines the idea of casual sophistication,” according to a description on the Rockville Town Square website. “Ranging from weekend brunch, to a casual lunch outing, to late-night celebrations or sporting event viewing parties, each dining experience is uniquely enjoyable.” The local chain is owned and operated by Thompson Hospitality, the same Hendon, Va.-based foodservice company that owns Austin Grill. Vie de France, Bar Louie latest to celebrate openings.
Rockville Town Square is welcoming several new spots for drinking, dining and buying carryout food this spring and summer. Pho & Rolls opened in May, Bar Louie opened two weeks ago and American Tap Room and Mr. Smoothie are coming soon, Jill Powell, senior marketing manager for Federal Realty Investment Trust, wrote in an e-mail. The most recent addition, Vie de France, which opened four weeks ago at 39-A Maryland Ave., will celebrate its grand opening Saturday. Music, giveaways, prizes and entertainment for children are planned between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., said Susan Salata, Vie de France marketing manager.
