While it is one of the county's smallest high schools, Rockville has taken on tough academic standards for all students. Programs include International Baccalaureate, a Journalism Academy, the engineering academy Project Lead the Way and AVID, an elective class preparing students "in the middle" for college.

Rockville's City Hall is home to offices of the city attorney,  city clerk, city manager, and the cityMore departments of Community Planning and Development Services, Community Services, Finance, Human Resources, Information and Technology, Public Works, Recreation and Parks  and Police.

The Mayor and Council meet at 7pm every Monday in the council chambers. The mayor and four-member council are elected every two years in odd-numbered years in nonpartisan elections.
