Police | Cell phone, seat belt law go into effect Tuesday
Starting Tuesday, police in Maryland will be able to pull drivers over for talking on a handheld cellphone. Another law taking effect will require all passengers to wear seat belts in the backseat of any vehicle. The new law is a secondary offense and carries a $50 fine. 

Chiefs of Montgomery County’s law enforcement agencies and Sheriff are planning to hold an informational event at 11:30 am. today the county’s Public Safety Training Academy, 9710 Great Seneca Highway, Rockville. 

New Drug Law | New law makes "synthetic marijuana” illegal
Several state delegates an senators will be in Rockville on Monday to spread the word about a new Maryland law that criminalizes the possession of designer drugs sometimes referred to as "K2/Spice" or "synthetic marijuana.” The law takes effect Tuesday.   

Business | Groundbreaking: Galvan at Twinbrook and The Terano
Today, Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett, Rockville Mayor Phyllis Marcuccio and representatives from JBG, WMATA and Safeway will ceremonially crack the soil at the construction site of two mixed-use communities on either side of the Twinbrook Metro station. Galvan at Twinbrook and The Terano combine more than 500 residential units and more than 130,000 square feet of retail space.
