Summer Construction: Rockville Pike, University Boulevard, Georgia Avenue, New Hampshire Avenue

Expect road closures and traffic disruptions.

A number of well-traveled roads in Montgomery County and other parts of Maryland will be impacted by summer road projects, according to the State Highway Administration's "Road Ready" brochure. (Click here for the PDF.)

Rockville Pike/MD-355 between Cedar Lane and Jones Bridge Road; to be complete by the end of summer. The Washington Post said SHA is working to improve roads near Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, including utility relocations and widening of the road.

Connecticut Avenue/MD-185 between Jones Bridge Road and Kensington Parkway; to be complete this summer. Work includes widening and turn lane additions.

Connecticut Avenue/MD-185 between Warner Street and Georgia Avenue; to be complete in the fall. Plans include resurfacing the street.

Georgia Avenue/MD-97 from 16th Street to the Washington, DC line; to be complete in spring 2014. Downtown Silver Spring commuters should expect lane closings during off-peak hours, according to The Post.

Olney-Latonsville Road/MD-108 at Bowie Mill Road; to be complete this summer. Work includes geometric improvements. 

New Hampshire Avenue/MD-650 at the bridge over Sligo Creek; to be complete in spring 2014. SHA will rehabilitate the bridge. The Post said the traffic implications will be moderate and part of Sligo Creek Parkway will be temporarily closed.

University Boulevard/MD-193 at the bridge over the Capital Beltway (I-495); to be complete summer 2015. A major makeover of the bridge will have a moderate affect on traffic, according to The Post.

East-West Highway/MD-410 between New Hampshire Avenue and Park Avenue; to be complete in the fall. SHA plans to resurface the road.
