Rockville Weekend: Movies, Music, Wine and Wheels

A film fest, music in Town Square, uncorking local wineries and roller derby.

 

Movies and music—and maybe a couple of glasses of wine—are on tap this weekend in Rockville.

Want a second chance to catch a screening under the stars?

You’re in luck.

The 16th Annual Comcast Film Fest continues through Saturday night at Mid-Pike Plaza, at 11810 Rockville Pike. The festival benefits the National Institutes of Health charities, including the .

Friday’s feature is Woody Allen’s Midnight in Paris. Pre-movie music will be provided by Gypsy Moth Trio.

Saturday’s feature is the family-friendly We Bought a Zoo. Pre-movie music will be by Christylez Bacon.

Live music kicks off at 5:30 p.m. The movie starts at 8:30 p.m.

Food trucks and other vendors will offer food, beer and wine with at least 20 percent of all sales going to NIH Children’s Charities. Outside food and beverages are prohibited.

Beach or lawn chairs and blankets are welcome.

The show goes on rain or shine, but could be canceled for strong winds.

The festival, which kicked off Thursday, is being held at the future home of . Plans for the project, near the White Flint Metro station, include 1,500 residential units, 1.1 million square feet of office space, a 250,000-square-foot hotel and 450,000 square feet of retail space, .

“Friday Night Live” in Town Square

Rockville “Uncorked”

Maryland’s wineries and local musicians take over the on Saturday, as the Uncorked Wine and Music Festival returns to Rockville.

The City of Rockville’s sixth edition of the festival, which was canceled last year due to Hurricane Irene, includes free live music and cooking demonstrations throughout the day.

Attendees 21-and-older can sample offerings from 14 wineries for $15.

The first 3,000 to purchase a bracelet for the wine tastings will receive a commemorative glass.

Rockville Roller Derby

Speaking of events canceled due to storms, Rockville's own Free State Roller Derby team, at 6 p.m. Saturday at .

The bout was originally scheduled for June 30, but was canceled due to the violent storm.

Online ticket sales are limited and close at 11 tonight. Tickets are $11 online and $12 at the door.
