County's History on Display During Heritage Days
Local historic sites will open their doors for free tours and activities this weekend.
The 15th annual Montgomery County Heritage Days festival takes place this weekend, with free events that offer visitors historic, cultural and nature adventure opportunities.
On Saturday and Sunday from noon to 4 p.m., visitors are invited to more than 30 open houses and events across the county. Check out this list for events in Rockville. A full list of events can be found here on the Heritage Days Web site.

The museum features exhibits on Latvian history, costumes, coins and jewelry, as well as hands-on activities for all ages include silversmithing and decorating Easter eggs with onionskin dye. Visitors can hear Latvian music performed on the Kokle, folk songs by Sudrabavots, vocal ensemble and enjoy refreshments. Latvian handicrafts and books will be for sale. Call 301-340-1914.
Beall-Dawson House and Stonestreet Museum of 19th Century Medicine

Visitors can tour the Federal-style Beall-Dawson House and see the Civil War in Montgomery County exhibit, which examines life during the conflict and the war’s lasting impacts. The Stonestreet Museum of 19th Century Medicine’s collection includes books, instruments and tools of the era. A historical reenactment on Saturday will feature Dr. Stonestreet in his office tending a wounded Civil War soldier. His buggy will be parked nearby. Call 301-762-1492.

Guided tours of the Red Brick Courthouse begin at 1:30, 2:30 and 3:30 p.m. Designated a historic building, the Courthouse is a symbol and architectural monument of old Rockville. Call 301-762-0096.

- 11420 Old Georgetown Road, North Bethesda. (Park at the Shriver Aquatic Center at 5900 Executive Boulevard, North Bethesda.)
Visitors can take a guided tour of the Riley farm, where the Rev. Josiah Henson was enslaved from 1795 to 1830. Henson’s 1849 autobiography inspired Harriet Beecher Stowe's landmark novel, Uncle Tom's Cabin. Explore an archaeology dig and make a set of marbles to take home. Tours begin every half hour.
