VIDEO: Rockville Resident Catching On With D.C. Divas Football

Nicole Fisk tackles the challenge of women's tackle football.

Nicole Fisk's passion is football. But while many women's passion for the game extends only as far as being a fan or maybe playing on a flag football team, Fisk, a recent transplant to Rockville, won't settle for anything less than the real thing.

This season she is putting on the pads and strapping on a helmet with the D.C. Divas, a women's professional football team with a decade-long history of winning games.

Fisk, who when she's not on the gridiron works for IBM, is no stranger to being on a football field. She played on her high school's football team—with the boys—for two years. After relocating to Rockville from Los Angeles eight months ago her father sent her a link to the Divas's Web site.

"As soon as I saw that, it was over," she said. After a tryout she made the team as a defensive back and is quickly having an impact.

On Saturday, in the second play of her second game, she picked off a pass and returned it 41 yards for a touchdown, sparking the Divas to a 55-6 win over the Keystone Assault.

The Divas take on the Philadelphia Liberty Belles at 7 p.m. on Saturday at home at the Prince George's Sports and Learning Complex in Landover, in the shadow of FedEx Field.
