New Chief Medical Officer Joins Shady Grove Adventist Hospital
New CMO joins your community hospital
Kevin Smothers, M.D., FACEP, has joined Shady Grove Adventist Hospital as its new Vice President and Chief Medical Officer (CMO). Dr. Smothers has more than 30 years of experience as a physician, with a proven track record in clinical quality and patient safety outcomes. Most recently, he was Senior Vice President of Medical Affairs, Chief Medical Officer and Chief Quality Officer at Carroll Hospital Center in Westminster, Md.
“Kevin is an exceptional addition to Shady Grove Adventist Hospital and Adventist HealthCare. His leadership in managing relationships between physicians, nurses and executives will be invaluable as we continue to enhance our patient quality initiatives,” said Terry Forde, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Adventist HealthCare.
As CMO, Dr. Smothers will help promote exceptional patient care delivery, improve care coordination, address medical staff-related system management and specialist recruitment, and serve as a critical link in communications, training and support for the hospital’s physician partners.

Dr. Smothers is board certified in internal medicine and has extensive experience in emergency medicine. He received his bachelor’s degree in psychology from Brown University and his M.D. from Stony Brook School of Medicine in New York. He completed his post-graduate training at the University of California San Francisco Medical Center at Mt. Zion.
