Christ Episcopal School Hits the Gym

Gold's Gym in Town Square offers students weights, cycling and tai chi.

Christ Episcopal School's location a few short blocks from Rockville Town Square allows students to take advantage of the downtown retail district's amenities.

Throughout February and March, seventh- and eighth-grade students go to Gold’s Gym in Town Square twice a week for a full-body workout.

CES takes physical education very seriously. Students in kindergarten through eighth-grade attend P.E. classes five days a week.

“Having P.E. five days a week, it’s important to mix it up and give the students different options,” said CES athletic director Bryan Maust.

Twice a week the seventh- and eighth-graders jog the .4 miles to Gold’s Gym. Students then participate in weight training, indoor cycling and tai chi under the guidance of Gold's Gym general manager, Tony Pampa and his staff.

“Our goal is to bring a different mindset to health and working out so it becomes a part of their everyday lives,” Pampa said.

Christ Episcopal School serves students from preschool (age 2 to 4) through eighth grade. CES is dedicated to educating the mind, body and spirit every day and providing physical education daily as an integral part of the overall program.
