Rockville Sister City News - Pinneberg Dance Group Visits Rockville

The Tanzschule Leseberg from Pinneberg, Germany, Rockville's sister city guests,  arrived on Tuesday, June 25.  They will live with host families across Rockville through Tuesday July 9 with a visit to New York City from June 30 to July 3.  Several days will be spent touring Washington D.C. The Pinneberg performers are all girls 15 through 19 years old and are accompanied by three adults.  At the Dulles International airport the sister city group was greeted by their Rockville host families with welcome signs.

The public will have  an opportunity to watch the Pinneberg dancers perform on Thursday, July 4, for the Rockville's Independence Day Celebration at Montgomery College Rockville Campus, 51 Mannakee Street. Another opportunity for Rockville friends to see the group perform is on July 6 at the Twinbrook Baptist Church at 7:00 p.m.

On July 5 for an American experience the Pinneberg sister city visitors will attend a baseball game, the Rockville Express team against the Bethesda Big Train team.  At this game Brigitta Mullican, the current President of the Rockville Sister City Corporation and representing the Montgomery County League of Women Voters will throw out the first ball for that nonprofit night game.

Another activity by the Pinneberg visitors is to ride the Carl Henn Millennium Trail.  This will happen if RSCC can get enough borrowed bikes for the group to ride.  If you live near the Rockville Senior Center and can bring a helmet and a bike for the girls to ride on July 8 from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m., please contact Karen Rawlins, thefinestperf@aol.com or 301-370-2437.

In the summer of 2012, by invitation from the Mayor of Pinneberg, 19 members of The Finest Performance Foundation, Inc.( FPF) of Rockville, Maryland, travelled to Pinneberg, Germany. The trip was sponsored by the Rockville Sister City Corporation (RSSC), Rockville Rotary Club and their sister group in Pinneberg, DAGRP (German American Society). They lived with German host families. Dancers from the Tanzschule Leseberg hosted the Finest through Pinneberg, Hamburg, and Berlin touring and doing joint performances.  Now the Sister City Pinneberg group is in Rockville as an exchange of that trip.

The German Tanzschule Leseberg group received support not only from the Pinneberg-Rockville German American Society but also from their local Pinneberg McDonalds. During the month of June if an individual ordered at McDonalds they were asked at checkout to give a gift for the sister city exchange.
