Walmart Responds to Aspen Hill Opponents

Spokeswoman: 'Walmart wages and benefits typically meet or exceed those of the majority of our competitors, including union competitors.'

Walmart spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg issued the following statement in response to Aspen Hill Walmart opponents and Montgomery County Council Members George Leventhal (D-At Large) and Marc Elrich (D-At Large), who hosted a rally outside Montgomery County Council building in Rockville on Tuesday:

“Walmart wages and benefits typically meet or exceed those of the majority of our competitors, including union competitors. In addition, our track record shows that Walmart often serves as a catalyst for economic growth. Nearby businesses frequently benefit from the customer traffic Walmart generates. As a result, some stores deliberately try to locate near Walmart. Our stores attract even more activity to the area which is good for customers, good for residents, and good for the community.”

Speak out: Do you agree? Do you think a new Walmart would stimulate business at Aspen Hill?
