VIDEO: Tour the New Rockville City Police Headquarters

Arbor Day tree planting set for Wednesday at the site.

The new Rockville City Police Department headquarters is expected to be dedicated this summer.

But first, city forestry staff will plant two commemorative trees in front of the building, at 2 W. Montgomery Ave., at 11 a.m. Wednesday, the city announced in a news release.

The ceremony, to mark Arbor Day, also will include a presentation of Rockville’s Tree City USA Award for 2011 by the Maryland Department of Natural Resources Forest Service.

The headquarters utilizes the renovated 11,415-square-foot historic U.S. Post Office in Town Center and a 14,538-square-foot annex. It will allow the department to move out of overcrowded offices in the bottom floor of .
