VIDEO: State Program Takes Aim at Childhood Obesity

A statewide initiative to promote a healthier lifestyle kicks off at Maryland's first childhood obesity summit.

State officials at a summit on childhood obesity in Baltimore on Tuesday announced the launch of the Institute for a Healthiest Maryland, a statewide initiative to promote healthy lifestyles and environments, fight obesity and  tobacco use and help people better manage hypertension and cholesterol.

The institute is sponsored by the University of Maryland in partnership with the state Department of Health and Mental Hygiene.
