VIDEO: Leggett Recognizes Efforts to Bring Golf and Life Lessons to County Youth

The county executive declared June 8-19 "The First Tee Week" in Montgomery County.

With —and —gripping the county, County Executive Isiah Leggett recently proclaimed June 8-19 as “The First Tee Week” in Montgomery County.

The First Tee, an initiative of the World Golf Association with support from the PGA and LPGA, has a mission “to impact the lives of young people by providing educational programs that build character, instill life-enhancing values and promote healthy choices through the game of golf,” according to the nonprofit’s Web site.

Leggett (D) read the proclamation during an April 28 visit to Needwood Golf Course in Rockville, where The First Tee holds golf lessons.

The First Tee is celebrating its 10th anniversary in Montgomery County this year. Over the past decade it has brought the game to thousands of county youth and provided them with life skills training on topics such as “meeting and greeting,” goal setting and problem solving.
