Sen. Barbara Mikulski Endorses Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown

by Adam Bednar

Sen. Barbara Mikulski is backing Lt. Gov. Anthony Brown’s bid to become the next governor of Maryland.

Mikulski, the powerful chairwoman of the U.S. Senate’s Appropriations Committee, has been an ally of Gov. Martin O’Malley, who served as state field director for her Senate campaign in 1986. O’Malley is also backing Brown’s attempt to succeed him.

"I support Anthony Brown because I’ve worked with him for 15 years, watching up close as he solved the most pressing problems facing Maryland families and women. I see in Anthony the fantastic values I most admire – he’s honorable, he’s patriotic and he’s willing to tackle the tough issues," U.S. Senator Barbara A. Mikulski said in a news release.

Attorney General Doug Gansler and Del. Heather Mizeur are also running for the Democratic nomination for governor in 2014.
