“Come on out, bring proof of residence, have fun with the kids and get as much information as you can about the upcoming school year,” center supervisor Yvette Yeboah said in an interview Wednesday with Rockville Patch.

The school year kickoff celebration allows families to meet school officials, participate in free health screenings and sign up for after-school activities and other city programs. It also features a DJ, a moon bounce and food.

Backpacks, for $1 each, and other school supplies will be distributed to families with a proof of city residency.

Donations of supplies were being collected through closing today at the following locations:

  • , 111 Maryland Avenue.
  • , 357 Frederick Avenue.
  • , 200 Fallsgrove Drive.
  • , 12920 Twinbrook Parkway.

"The Back to School Jam has become a big tradition over here in Lincoln Park, and the event continues to grow each year," Yeboah said in a city news release. "We try to get the kids excited about the upcoming school year and give them a head start to help them feel confident going into school."

The Back to School Jam is held in partnership with Linkages to Learning at , and Rockville Housing Enterprises.
