Rockville City Council Agenda: Votes on City Contracts and a Budget Discussion of Development Costs and Revenues

A budget discussion of costs and revenue associated with new development and a vote on city contracts, and the bidding process for contracts, are on the Rockville City Council’s agenda for Monday. 

The council meets at 7 p.m. at City Hall. The meeting will be broadcast live on Rockville 11.

The council’s first meeting of 2013 includes a consent agenda vote on:

• A contract for up to $1 million for bridge rehabilitation work through June 2014.
• Changes to the Maryland Avenue sidewalk project and city’s bikeway master plan.
• A contract for $143,700 for purchasing chemicals for the city’s water treatment plant through June 2013.
• Changes to city purchasing laws to add definitions of “Local Business” and “Tie Bids” and to award city contracts to local firms in the case of tie bids.

The council also is scheduled to discuss costs and revenue associated with new development. It will be the last of six discussions in preparation for the council’s fiscal 2014 budget deliberations. Other discussions have explored biennial budgeting and what it means to cut costs.

The council is expected to adopt in late May the budget for fiscal 2014, which begins July 1.

A discussion with the city’s Board of Supervisors of Elections, which appeared on a preliminary agenda last week is not on Monday's agenda. A review of the city’s ethics ordinance that appeared on the preliminary agenda is now on the preliminary agenda for Jan. 14.

Public hearings on the proposed reconstruction of the Stonestreet pedestrian bridge, Town Center zoning and the creation of a Financial Advisory Board also are on the agenda for Jan. 14.

The council last met Dec. 17.
