'Cutting Edge' Online Voter Registration Launches in Maryland

Maryland is one of a handful of states nationwide offering the service.

Residents in Maryland with a valid drivers’ license or identification card can now register to vote online for the first time, Gov. Martin O’Malley announced.

Mary Wagner, Maryland’s director of voter registration at the State Board of Elections, called the move, which was passed by the Maryland General Assembly in 2011, “fairly cutting edge.”

Will you register to vote online? Or do you prefer the paper method? Tell us in comments.

State officials did a soft launch of the online voter registration tool July 9 and moved it to the main state elections home page on Tuesday, Wagner said.

Since the soft launch, Montgomery County voters have registered 37 new registrations and six changes of address, as of Thursday afternoon, Wagner said.

Five county voters and one address change had been registered using the tool since Tuesday, she said.

“It’s convenient for the voters,” Wagner said. “If you’re moving, the last thing you’re thinking about is moving your voter registration records.”

Maryland is one of 13 states with online voter registration either implemented or approved by state lawmakers, according to the National Conference of State Legislatures.

The online voter registration system is expected to increase the number of registrants and "go a long way in cleaning the voter rolls," Wagner said.

"Election officials will not be having to read handwriting, interpret handwriting," she said. "You can’t put in a bad address."

The address that potential voters input must match a state database, which means "you can't misspell an address," she said.

The new tool also should help ensure voters are voting the correct ballot and should help local elections boards by cutting down on the number of people voting provisional ballots, Wagner said.

The deadline in Maryland to register to vote in the Nov. 6 election is Oct. 16. Paper registrations must be post-marked by that date. Voters can register online or by walk-in at their local elections board up until 9 p.m. Oct. 16, Wagner said.

To participate in online voting in Maryland, you must have a state drivers’ license or identification card issued by the Maryland Motor Vehicle Administration, Wagner said. Otherwise, you can pre-populate the online form and mail it in, she said.

The state elections board includes a “Frequently Asked Questions” page that includes a way to email the state board specific questions and a “Rumor Control” page that dispels several misconceptions about voting in Maryland.

I can understand that your father is still voting in Chicago, even though he died 30 yrs ago. That is the Chicago way because it is run by a bunch of dishonest democrat liers and cheats. Maryland democrats are taking their marching orders from the chief lier and cheat in the white house. The dems in MD are running it the same exact way.

BTW, ACORN (the group that Obama was a member of and taught "community organizers" how to cheat the US taxpayers) also was part of signing up illegals . Since coming to office, the Obama administration and other Democrat/Liberal organizations have brought lawsuits against Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Arizona, Mississippi, Wisconsin, Texas, Pennsylvania, and South Carolina. They claim that there is no voter fraud of note and that this unfairly discriminates against minorities. Oddly, seven ACORN workers were been indicted in Nevada where officials believe 48% of ACORN’s submitted voter registration forms are “clearly fraudulent.” In Washington State, ACORN was fined $25,000 after several employees were convicted of voter fraud. In 1998, an ACORN contractor arrested for falsifying 400 voter registration cards. Colorado 2005 – 2 ACORN employees convicted for submitting false voter registration cards. Colorado 2004 – an ACORN employee arrested for forging voter registration forms to allow 3 people to vote 40 times. Connecticut 2008 – NY Post reported ACORN registered a 7-year old child. Florida 2009 – 11 ACORN workers arrested for forging voter registrations. 197 of 260 registrations contained personal ID information that did not match any living person. Indiana 2008 - officials threw out 4,000 fraudulent ACORN submitted voter registrations. Ohio 2008 – ACORN activist paid people to register with cigarettes and cash. There is more info out there on this.

Notice that the NObama admin and the DOJ have not filed lawsuits against Maryland. I wonder why???? Guess they don't want to open a "can of worms" and find out the truth on how the democrats in MD have been committing crimes against the people of Maryland.

Because OWE MALLEY is Obams Lap Dog! And he wants his state.to vote him president. Over my Dead Body, I will speak out against OWEMALLEY everywhere I go. Maryland is my home, I was born and raised her. Yet, the situation has become so untenable my family may indeed be moving out of state. That will be a sad day for me But not for my pocketbook.

Couldn't agree more Doug, I experienced a ballot irregularity at my polling station.. eballot didn't match sample ballot, when I told them about it they said too bad, the sample was a misprint. I said than that invalidates every polling station in Maryland or at least my precint. I said that was illegal. They Threatened to have me arrested and removed from the polling station. I said I would stand outside the electioneering line and let people know of the "misprint" and again I was threatened with arrest. To which I responded... I can stand outside the electionerring line and say whatever I wish. Those distributed datbases are a messs. I used to program similar machines.. and I know how easy it is to advertantly or inadvertantly make the wrong forms coming up.. it's all html. and its all changeable before you can make a complaint and then have someone with Distributed databases go in and check.. and then even then... these DB's are fluid.. no way to check unless you have say a netapp box and restore to the point in time of the irregularity.

If there is really fraud in voting in Maryland, I want to see proof not accusation. We all know that dead people's name in the voter data takes time to be deleted. This is a problem as is with voters who move and don't change their address with the BOD. Has anyone in Maryland really tried to vote using a dead person's identification? My cousin in Georgia told me a new law was passed in her state that when one gets a license renewed one must provide proof of ID. Her license expires in October and she need to provide proof of citizen. She went to the SSA office after losing her SS card and asked for a duplicate SS card. She was required to show proof of citizenship or a birth certificate (which she has neither). As myself she was not born in the US and does not have a birth certificate. Her mother is looking for my cousin's naturalization papers which will solve my cousin's requirement to prove her citizenship. My cousin has been in the United States since 1959. Only now is she faced with providing proof of citizenship (has been here legally). She is in support of the new law, but also an example of how difficult it can be if you don't have proper documentation. Getting a replacement for naturalization costs either $600 or $345 and will require at least 6 months. I pray my aunt finds my cousin's naturalization document. People need to realize the importance of official documents and what they mean.

Amie, I am sure there are "irregularities" in the electronic votin process. Paper ballot would be good and showing a REAL ID and proof of citizenship to go along with the vote. But we are talking about Maryland here, run by a bunch of liers and cheats. Just look at the so called "redistricting" OWEmalley came up with. What he has done is disenfranchaised ALL Marylanders and took away our voice. What he has done is basically "stuffed" the ballot box in favor of the dems. He should be recalled (but too bad MD does not have a law for that). Too bad the people of maryland vote party (you know who you are you dems) and not the issues. Each time you vote for a democrat in MD you may as well just bend over and take it once again.
B Allen August 21, 2012 at 01:02 PM
But Amie, didn't you know that one of the words they (you know the lib dems) throw at anyone who disagrees with their ideology, they call them racists (thats the first one), bigots, sexists, etc. then they say that those that disagree hate children, hate old people, like dirty air and water and so on. I also feel ANY and ALL REAL citizens of the US can and SHOULD vote. If they don't then they don't have a say when they are seeing their income go down because of the new taxes the dems are invoking on us, or when they have to pay more for gas and groceries or all the new people over the last 4 yrs put on the welfare rolls (the most in history) or even when they lose their job because of the libs governemtn restrictions they put on businesses.

Gustavo torres runs casa of MD. He is the lead socialist here in MD and the dems are all playing up to him. The only thing he is getting is wealthier on the taxpayers dollars. Maybe he and casa really need to be investigated as to where our tax dollars are going, OH WAIT! Our taxdollars in MD (almost $2B) is going to illegals.
B Allen August 21, 2012 at 01:25 PM
Brigitta, it is VERY easy to find out the info. If you need proof then you can be easily fooled. There has been numerous instances where illegals get drivers licences in MD. It has been documented and indictments have come down on State government workers and have been found guilty. Here is some reading for you to get up to date. There is more but if you don't get the picture after reading this, you will never get it. http://www.federalobserver.com/archive.php?aid=9955 NOTE:even illegals who come from many countries, who can be potential terrorists are given identification, which enables them to vote. Just like the guys that pulled off the attacks on 911, they came right through maryland undetected. http://washingtonexaminer.com/article/111874 http://www.examiner.com/article/mva-employees-nabbed-maryland-driver-s-license-and-id-card-scam

@Rob the democrats in Maryland wll do ANYTHING to get a vote and they will go as far as lining illegals up to sign up to vote, they will give them dead peoples' SSN, etc. Many people thta vote for democrats in MD turn a blind eye towards the corruption that goes on in the democrat party in Maryland. The media will jot print that info, but it is there. i.e. before the 2008 election, members from casa of md travelled to NY to see Hugo Chavez when he was there to address the UN (remember the Bush is the devil comment?) to show Chave\z the numbers of illegals they had gotten to sign up to vote in maryland. This whole nonsense of "disenfranchaising" students, the poor and the elderly for having to pressent an ID at the polls is BS. The online registering is great, but it should be followed up with a REAL ID at the polls.

The problem i see is that our elected officials refuse to pass photo voter id laws. The liberals see it as a deterrent and inconvenience to minority, elderly and disabled. You can't return an item to walmart without photo id or even see your doctor without photo id so why not pass bills to have photo voter id at the polls. Why not ask for photo id in person also when you vote and does anyone remember omalley mistakenly gave about 350k illegals a drivers license making them capable to vote and other benefits? He admits to 350k but i think the number was much higher. They were coming to mva by busloads from other states also.
amdactivist January 05, 2013 at 11:51 PM
I totally agree B.. read my other post regarding fake mva license etc.

yes they are voting. Get involved and sign on to do voter research in your own home and in your own time. See for yourself how many voters jammed into one small property or living on vacant lots and how many voters have several VR #'s >Voter registration numbers which makes them capable of voting several times. See how many are seniors over 100 and still voting yet when you call the nursing home they tell you they deceased.. www.truethevote.org
