Montgomery County Libraries Expand Borrowing Privileges

The changes will take effect Feb. 17.

Do you use the Rockville Memorial Library, Twinbrook Library or any of Montgomery County's 20 other public libraries? If so, beginning Feb. 17, you will be able to do the following:

  • Increase the number of checkouts on your account from 50 items to 100 items.
  • Place 30 holds, rather than 15.
  • Check out 20 DVDs (rather than 10).
  • Renew items three times (rather than twice), as long as there is not another customer waiting for the item.

“We want to continue to be responsive and accountable to our residents and users,” Montgomery County Public Libraries Director Parker Hamilton said in a statement. “By implementing these policy changes, MCPL will ensure that more materials will be in the hands of our customers, and not sitting on shelves. Barriers to customers who need more materials or need materials for a longer period of time will be removed.”
