Hundreds of Traffic Signals Remain Dark

Motorists are urged to use caution during Monday's commute.

Traffic lights at about 240 intersections across Montgomery County remained without power as of 5:30 a.m. Monday, the county reported.

Major intersections without working stoplights include:

  • East Gude Drive and Frederick Road (MD 355) and West Gude Drive.
  • Connecticut Avenue (MD 185) and Randolph Road.
  • Connecticut Avenue and Veirs Mill Rd (MD 586) The southbound lanes of Connecticut Avenue south of Veirs Mill Road remain closed due to a tree in the roadway, NBC4 reported about 6:45 a.m. Monday.
  • Cabin John Parkway and MacArthur Boulevard.
  • Jones Bridge Road and Rockville Pike (MD 355).
  • River Road (MD 190) and Wilson Lane (MD 188).
  • Little Falls Parkway and River Road.
  • Democracy Boulevard and Old Georgetown Road (MD 187).
  • Colesville Road (US 29) and University Boulevard East (MD 193) at Four Corners.
  • Columbia Boulevard and Georgia Avenue (MD 97) and Seminary Road.
  • Forest Glen Road and Forest Glen Road (MD 192) and Georgia Avenue.

County police are directing traffic at many intersections. Driving restrictions have been lifted on Interstate 270 in Montgomery County, allowing all motorists to use HOV lanes on Monday.

Motorists are reminded of the following tips:

  • Treat all intersections without a working stoplight as a four-way stop.
  • Proceed with caution only when traffic permits.
  • Enter intersections only when it is safe to do so, using turn signals to let other motorists know your intentions.
  • Yield to pedestrians in crosswalks.
  • Be alert for police officers directing traffic.
  • Allow extra time for your commute and plan on delays.
