The oak furniture and wall paneling that were the chamber's trademark were built in the early 1970s by City of Rockville carpenter Ernest "Nippy" Onley and his crew, according to the city's website.
The chamber received a makeover when the city built a wrap-around addition to City Hall in 1981-82. Upgraded audio and visual equipment was added in 2005.
Over the years, the room has hosted City Council meetings, candidate forums and even exercises classes as the city's multi-purpose meeting space.
