The Montgomery County Council of PTAs and the NAACP Parents' Council host a panel discussion on the maintenance of effort law for school funding. Panelists will include Maryland House Ways and Means Committee Chairwoman Sheila Hixson, Maryland Senate Montgomery County Delegation Chairman Jamie Raskin, House Delegation Chairman Brian Feldman, elected leadership from the Montgomery County Council and Montgomery County Board of Education, and representatives from the Maryland Association of Boards of Education and Maryland Association of Counties.
Questions to be answered include how the law impacts education, whether it guarantees a floor for per pupil funding, who schools are penalized for not meeting the requirement and whether the law should be changed.
