Candidates Meet Deadline in 6th and 8th Districts

Sen. Ben Cardin faces eight primary challengers.

The addition of two Montgomery County residents to the 6th Congressional District race brings the total to 13 candidates competing in the April 3 primaries, according to records filed with the Maryland State Board of Elections.

Ron Little, a Democrat from Gaithersburg, and Germantown Republican Peter James filed for candidacy Wednesday, ahead of the 9 p.m. deadline.

In the 8th District, U.S. Rep. Christopher Van Hollen Jr. (D) of Kensington faces a primary challenge from George English, a retired federal economist from Silver Spring. Four Republicans and one Green Party candidate also have filed for the 8th District race.

  • Robin Ficker, Montgomery County
  • Peter James, Montgomery County
  • Joseph T. Krysztoforski, Baltimore County
  • Brandon Orman Rippeon, Frederick County

8th District—Democrats

  • George English, Montgomery County
  • U.S. Rep. Christopher Van Hollen, Montgomery County (incumbent)

8th District—Republicans

  • Gus Alzona, Montgomery County
  • Shelly Skolnick, Montgomery County
  • Ken Timmerman, Montgomery County
  • Dave Wallace, Montgomery County

George Gluck, a Green Party candidate who also is running in the 8th District, will only appear on the general election ballot.

Eighteen people have filed to run for the U.S. Senate seat held by Benjamin L. Cardin of Pikesville, including eight Democrats who will challenge Cardin in the primary.
